One Day Trip in Kaohsiung (Part2), Taiwan

Second day of one day trip, I departed from hotel before 8:00 going to Fo Guang Shan. I ever visited Fo Guang Shan in Bangkok, Thailand so I would like to visit the origin in Taiwan. Fo Guang Shan in Taiwan is free admission. The museum opens 09:00-18:00 and closed on Tuesday. If you are planning to visit other attractions on Monday and it is closed so I recommend to visit Fo Guang Shan.

Itinerary

- Fo Guang Shan Museum

Access

MRT -> Harvard Express Bus

Zuoying Station, Exit 1. After get off the station, you will see Rainbow Bazaar. Go to bus stop no.3. Be careful, I met the taxi driver pursuing the passenger to go with him in flat rate. I could not remember the price but it was expensive. If you are not interestied in, you can ignore him.

You can use Easy card to pay bus fare NT$70 per trip. You should arrive bus stop before departure time at least 10 minutes. You will see many passenger queue up at the bus stop.

The first stop is Buddha Memorial Hall where I got off the bus and the second stop is main shrine. If you would like to visit both Buddha Memorial Hall and Main Shrine, you should come early because each place is huge.

When you get off the bus at first stop, you will see the way to main shrine on the left side (as below photo). I recommend you taking the bus instead of walking. I visited only Buddha Memorial Hall.

The entrance of the first bus stop.

There are restaurants, cafe and souvenirs shops here. The first restaurant is on the 1st floor (vegetarian food). The another one (buffet) is on the 2nd floor.

I had lunch at vegetarian restaurant walking around museum, all was tasty and price was reasonable. Price on menu excluded service charge 10%.

Photo spot that should not be missed.

Walkway to museum.

I departed from here around 12:00 and going back to Zuoing station. Do not forget to check bus timetable. It was easy to go to Lotus Pond from Zuoying station. Take bus no. R35 (NT$12) to Lianchi Tan (Shengli Rd.) bus stop (9 stops, 15 minutes).

Dragon and Tiger Pagodas (under renovation)

Walk 200 m. to Spring and Autumn Pavilions

Walk 600 m. to Zuoying Yuandi Temple

Before going back to Kaohsiung Station, on the way to bus stop you can visit Zuoying market.

Zuoying Market Bus Stop

Going to Kaohsiung station, take bus no. 301, 8043,  to Kaohsiung Station (Jianguo Rd.) Area bus stop or bus no. 205 to Kaohsiung Senior High School. Bus fare starts from NT$12, takes 16-30 minutes.

If you would like to visit Sanfong Temple / Sanfeng Temple, the bus no. 205 also passes this temple (on the way to Kaohsiung Station). Get off Sanfeng Central Station bus stop. Walk 300 m.
