  6. Hi! I'm going to stay in Sapporo from April 26th to the 30th, and I'm planning a daytrip to Noboribetsu and Lake Toya on the 28th.
My plan is to get up early and visit Noboribetsu in the morning, then go to Lake Toya to have lunch and spend the afternoon.
I saw the table that you translated and it seems that the last bus from Toyako Onsen to the station is at 19:30. The thing is that I really want to see the fireworks! do you think I might be able to catch a Taxi to the station at around 21? The last train to Sapporo leaves at 21:47 so I guess I'll be on time, but I don't know if there are any taxi services in Toyako Onsen.
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi! There are taxi run in Toya. The taxi fare should be around 2,000 yen (during 22:00-05:00 fare increases 30%) but it may hard to find taxi at night.

Anyway, the bus timetable should be updated again on April. The current timetable is for winter. I think they may provide more buses in spring. Please check it again in April.

  9. Hello, we would like to take the Donan bus from Dai-ichi Takimotokan to Toyako onsen in Sept 2017...however, when I asked Dai-ichi, they said there's no bus to Toyako onsen from Noboribetsu! For some reason, Donan bus's website has been down for a few weeks now. I am not 100% sure if this bus route is still running as of today...not sure if anyone can confirm that we can still take this bus in mid September. It saves a lot of time (and money) if we could take direct bus to Toyako onsen rather than taking bus-train-bus route. Thanks in advance!!

    1. Hi! Normally, there are the bus runs between Noboribetsu to Toyako Onsen. Since the hotel informed you like that, I recommend you to check the bus timetable again at Information Center near Noboribetsu Onsen bus stop. The latest bus timetable is April 2017 but I also cannot visit Donan Bus website as the server is down for more than 1 month.

In case of direct bus is not available, you need to take the bus to JR Noboribetsu Station. Take train to JR Toya, then take the bus or taxi to Toyako Onsen.

  10. Hi Blue Moon!

Is there any bus connecting from Lake Toya to Noboribetsu? I’m coming from Hakodate with luggages and will stay at Noboribetsu Onsen area.

    My initial plan is:
Hakodate Station - Toya Station (keep luggages)
Toya Station - Lake Toya (donan bus)
Lake Toya - Toya Station (collect luggages)
    Toya Station - Noboribetsu Station
Noboribetsu Station - Noboribetsu Onsen (donan bus)

    3. There are 19 coin lockers at JR Toya Station (5 medium size = 500 yen, 12 large = 600 yen and 2 large = 700 yen). You can keep luggage at Toya Station but cannot guarantee the availability of locker or send the luggage in advance to hotel.

    1. Hi! Can you advise when your trip is? The timetable on website is effective until 30 November. The last train is 21:08-21:46 (Noboribetsu to JR Toya Station) but you will be unable to catch the last bus from Toya station to Lake Toya. By the way, you can take the taxi from Toya Station. Please be careful the taxi fare, the fare usually increase from normal rate after 10 p.m.

The last bus (direct bus) from Noboribetsu to Lake Toya is 15:10 from Noboribetsu Onsen.

Is that too rush? It depends on your arrival time in Noboribetsu. Suppose you arrive Noboribetsu in the morning and spend 3-4 hours there, then go to Lake Toya. That's fine. If you arrive Noboribetsu in the afternoon, then go to Lake Toya. You can still follow as your plan but you may get tired.

  24. Hi, we plan to travel on 24/12/2018 and would like to go to Usuzan Ropeway and Mt Usu Summit.

    The plan is:

Sapporo -> Usu Station -> Usuzan Ropeway -> Toya Lake -> Usu Station -> Hakodate

A very busy day on trains I know... but my main worry is what is the best way to go from Usu Station to Usuzan Ropeway and around the lake in December as there is no Donan bus that directly goes there.

    1. I just realised that Toya station would be better I think instead of Usu Station. But still have same problem with no winter bus.

Is it normally bus from Toya -> Lake Toya. Then maybe use taxi to Usuzan Ropeway? Then do the same to get back.

      Delete
    2. Hi SKY,

Actually, I have no idea about Usuzan Ropeway but I found some information on website. The website stated that "Toyako Onsen bus terminal is served by both the local buses to JR Toya Station (15 minutes, 330 yen, one bus/hour, stops near Usuzan West Crater along the way) and Usuzan Ropeway (15 minutes, 340 yen, four buses/day, no service in winter)" so I think you may use taxi. The taxi fare should be around 2,000 yen or over (one way trip).

One thing that I concerned is about the weather (freeze and windy) especially in December so please be careful.

    1. Hi! Currently, I could not access Donan Bus website so I checked it from the another website. Overall, you can still use this timetable at this moment but I cannot confirm the timetable in June. In my opinion, timetable in June seems unchanged.

    1. Hi! There is no direct bus. You can take JR from Hakodate to Toya Station, then take bus to Lake Toya.

    2. thanks, the opposite if i am travel from Toya to Hakodate? would you have the bus information, do i have to book the bus ahead of time? sorry for all these questions, we are first time traveling to Hokkaido

    3. That's ok. As there is no direct bus between Toya and Hakodate, I recommend to take bus from Lake Toya (Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal) to Toya Station, then take the train (LTD. EXP SUPER HOKUTO) to Hakodate. No need to book the bus between Lake Toya and Toya Station. The timetable is on the top of this page.

  30. hi blue moon,

about the taxi fare (2000-2500 yen), is it for the 4 seaters car? or is it fare per person?
do you know, is there any big taxi that can fit for 8 adults from JR toya to Toyako onsen bus terminal? and probably how much it cost?

    thank you.

    1. Hi! Normally,it is 4 seater cars. The fare is per car. Due to the tax consumption increase to 10% so I'm not sure whether the current taxi fare also increases. Please check it again.

I'm not sure about the big taxi at Lake Toya. You probably call 2 taxis or you may ask hotel to contact taxi as number provided at the bottom of article.

    2. Hi Blue Moon
Thank you very much for your kind reply.

In summary - can I assume that there will always be a bus (Company - Toya Travel Winter) to ferry passengers from Toyako Onsen Bus Terminal to Showa Shinzan.

Can I confirm that it is at Showa Shinzan that we take the Ropeway up to Mt Usu ?

Can I trouble you to help publish the Bus Schedule next weekend when it will be 22 Nov ? Is 22 Nov late enough for the latest Bus Schedule to be published ?

      Thank you in advance....

  33. Hi
I want to visit Noboribetsu and Lake Toya at 4 Jan 2020. I will stay at Noboribetsu Manseikaku. I have JR pass. I want to see lake toya and tunnel illumination. What time tunnel illumination will start? Is it possible to catch Donan Bus back to Noboribetsu. Thanks

    1. Hi! The illumination tunnel starts from 18:00 until 22:00. You cannot catch the direct bus between Lake Toya and Noboribetsu so these are my options:

      1. Take Donan Bus from Toyako Onsen BT at 19:30 and arrive Toya Station at 19:48 in order to catch LTD. EXP SUPER HOKUTO train at 20:42 to Noboribetsu Onsen Station (arrive 21:22). Then, take Donan Bus at 21:33 to Noboribetsu Onsen (please re-check Donan Bus timetable) and walk to hotel.

      2. Take taxi from tunnel illumination to Toya Station to catch the train at 19:43 (arrive Noboribetsu at 20:22) or 20:42 (arrive Noboribetsu at 21:22). Then take Donan Bus or taxi to hotel.

  36. hi Bluemoon! thanks for the information, you are nice!

Would like to check with you, is the only alternative if I miss the last bus from JR Toya to Toyako Onsen BT by taxi only?

And, is the only way to get a taxi via phone call? Cause I don't think I would have a local sim card to do the calling.

Thank you very much in advance.

    1. Hi!

If you miss the last bus, you can take taxi. Some hotels provide free shuttle between JR Toya Station and Lake Toya. There should have taxi waiting outside Toya Station. This is taxi contact number 0142-75-2266.
