Travel Between Tokyo / Narita Airport / Haneda Airport and Aomori - Japan


Aomori prefecture is one of Tohoku area located north of Tokyo and under Hokkaido. Apple is popular product of Aomori so you can find apple in the dessert, snack or even main dishes. The fastest way from Tokyo to Aomori is airplane which takes 1h 20 m. Alternatively, if you travel from Hakodate (Hokkaido) to Aomori by shinkansen will be faster than from Tokyo. There are 3 options travelling between Tokyo and Aomori.




1. Haneda Airport to Aomori Airport
2. Narita Airport -> Tokyo Station -> Aomori 
3. Haneda Airport -> Tokyo Station -> Aomori
4. Tokyo Station -> Aomori

1. Haneda Airport to Aomori Airport by Airplane

Take JAL domestic flights from Haneda Airport to Aomori Airport which takes 80 minutes. Then, take JR Bus from Airport to Aomori Station. Bus fare is covered by JR Pass (All Area) and JR East Tohoku Area Pass.

2. Getting From Narita Airport to Tokyo Station

2.1 NEX (Narita Express) to Tokyo Station (60-65 minutes approximately). JR Pass covers NEX. If you don't buy JR Pass, you can buy the special ticket price. The original fare is 3,000+ yen per trip. Checking the promotion on NEX website. NEX requires seat reservation.




2.2 JR Rapid line: In case of early arrival in the morning and unavailability of NEX at that time, you can take JR Sobu/Narita Line Rapid to Tokyo Station. It takes time about 90 minutes which longer than NEX but the fare is cheaper. Fare is 1,300 yen+ approximately. No seat reservation. 


2.3 Keisei Skyliner: Taking the train from airport to Nippori Station (40 minutes) and change to JR Yamanote Line / Keihin-Tohoku / Negishi Line / Joban Line to Tokyo Station (12 minutes). Total duration 60 minutes approximately. Skyliner requires seat reservation. Fare is 2,470 yen (one way). The discount ticket and e-ticket are available. You can check the promotion on website.

Keisei Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket is the ticket includes the fare one-way or roundtrip between Narita airport and Keisei Ueno Station plus the Tokyo Subway (Toei Subway + Tokyo Metro Subway) Free Ticket (24 hours, 48 hours or 72 hours). 

2.4 Tokyo Shuttle Bus: The bus operated by Keisei group. The bus departs every 20 minutes. Duration is 72-77 minutes. Fare is 1,000 (adult) and 500 yen (child). The first bus from Narita Airport Terminal 3,2,1 is 5:55 /  06:00-06:05 / 06:10 respectively. The bus timetable, click here.

2.5 Limousine Bus 

Fare from airport to Tokyo Station is 2,800 yen for adult and 1,400 yen for child. For more information, click here.

2.6 Access Narita Bus

Fare is 1,000 yen for adult and 500 yen for child, pay on the bus. The bus departs every 20 minutes. Click here for more information.




3. Getting From Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station

3.1 Limousine Bus

Fare is 950 yen for adult and 480 yen for child. It takes 45 minutes.

3.2 Tokyo Monorail is convenient and fast. Haneda Airport is closer to Tokyo than Narita Airport. It takes only 13 minutes from Haneda Airport to Hamamamatsucho Station (Tokyo). The fare is 500 yen. JR Pass covers the fare. For more information, click here.



The discount ticket (500 yen for adult and 250 yen for child), travelling from airport through Monorail Hamamatsucho Station to any stations on the JR Yamanote Line. (One-way and one use only). The areas covered are Tokyo, Kanda, Akihabara, Shinagawa, Ueno, Okachimachi, Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, Yoyogi, Harajuku, Shibuya and etc. You can purchase at the ticket machine. 


4. From Tokyo Station to Aomori

4.1 Overnight bus

The bus departs from Tokyo at night and arrive Aomori in the morning. There are Japan Bus Online  and Willer Express Bus. Fare starts at 8,000 yen approximately.

4.2 Shinkansen

Takes Hayabusa Shinkansen 3 hours approximately from Tokyo Station to Shin-Aomori Station so you may have a break journey by visiting other prefectures e.g. Sendai (Miyagi), Morioka (Iwate) before heading to Aomori or not have a break. From Shin-Aomori Station to Aomori Station, take JR OU LINE for AOMORI (6 minutes). 


JR Ou Line - Aomori

Without JR pass, travel fare will be expensive. Fare is 17,670 yen (one way) so suggest to buy it. JR East Pass Tohoku Area and JR all pass cover this cost. Please note that JR Pass Nagano, Niigata exclude the fare to Aomori so make sure that you buy the right pass.
