Chiang Rai Trip (Part 2), Thailand

Continue Chiang Rai trip from part 1, you can click this link to read the previous part.
The 2nd day of the trip, I rented the car with chauffeur again. The price was 1,500 Baht (rate for downtown area). Car was Nissan Almera. Here was my itinerary for the 2nd day:

- Wat Rong Khun (วัดร่องขุ่น)
- Singha Park
- Clock Tower
- Wat Phra Kaew (วัดพระแก้ว)
- Wat Rong Suea Ten (วัดร่องเสือเต้น)

I departed from the hotel at 8:00 a.m. and headed to Wat Rong Khun (The White Temple) first. I heard that if you arrive there after 10:00 a.m., there will be a lot of group tours. Wat Rong Khun was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat (a famous Thai visual artist), is the popular temple in Chiang Rai. The outstanding of this temple is the white color temple.

Opening Hours: 8:00-17:00

Admission Fee:

Thai: Free (Show ID Card)
Foreigner: 50 Baht

I went to see inside the temple. The photography inside The White Temple is not allowed and you must take off your shoes. The staff gives a plastic bag.

I also surprised with the toilet (free of charge). The architecture is beautiful.

Other areas around Wat Rong Khun. There are temple memory stamp (free of charge). The souvenir shop is near the exit gate. The price of products is cheap. For example, the mini notebook is 10 Baht. There are cafe and restaurants around the temple but I did not look around because I would like to move to the next destination.

Sigha Park

Singha Park Chiang Rai managed by Boonrawd Farm Co., Ltd., is the large agricultural tourism. The visitors can enjoy various activities such as bike, sport activity, see animals, music festival and etc.

The area in Singha Park is huge so I bought the ticket of farm tour (see the next photo). I recommend to buy the ticket before enjoy taking the photo around the entrance. If the seats are full on that time, you must choose the next one.

Admission Fee (Farm Tour Bus):

Adult: 100 Baht
Children, height not exceeding 120 cms.   50 Baht
Children not exceeding 80 cms.  Free
Golf Car 1,500 Baht

Timetable:

9:00 / 09:30 / 10:00 / 10:30 / 11:00 / 11:30 / 12:00 /
13:00 / 13:30 / 14:00 / 14:30 / 15:00 / 15:30 / 16:00

After I bought the ticket, I visited the cafe near the entrance. The souvenir shop is next to the cafe. You can buy the souvenirs after finished farm tour. The recommended souvenirs are jams (mulberry / lemon / strawberry / grape), fruit juices, tea and etc.

The farm tour (with guide) takes approximately 1 hour. There are 4-5 stops. The visitors must take the specific bus from the beginning until finish the the tour. For example, you cannot get off the first stop and wait for the next bus. The tour takes us to lake and swan, tea and fruit plant, see animals (giraffe, zebra), farm festival area and etc.

Farm Festival Area. This is the last stop before going back. The bus stops in front of souvenir shop.

If you visit the farm not in seasonal event, there are not many attractions (in my opinion) but I like the souvenirs.

I had lunch at a restaurant near the clock tower. The clock tower was under renovation. I recommend to have lunch or dinner around here. The price of one dish is not high and you can buy souvenirs in reasonable price.

After I had lunch, I visited Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), Chiang Rai. "Wat Phra Kaew on Trairat Road is one of the most renowned temples of Chiang Rai as it was where the sacred Emerald Buddha had been enshrined since 1444 before it’s been relocated to Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok: Ref Tourism Thailand"

Opening hours: Daily 8:00-17:00

Wat Rong Suea Ten (The Blue Temple)

"Suea Ten'' means the dancing tiger. Wat Rong Suea Ten reminds me Wat Rong Khun (The White Temple). The temple was built by the student of Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat (who is the founder of The White Temple).

After that I went to the cafe near The Blue Temple, then visited the souvenir shop near Chiang Rai Airport. The Souvenir shop sells the products in reasonable price.
